Gilbert, Arizona Celebrates April as Valley Bike Month
April is Valley Bike Month and Gilbert, Arizona is inviting residents to get out and enjoy the beautiful spring weather with a family bike ride. Throughout the Valley there are a variety of events to urge Arizonans to get fit and enjoy the outdoors while practicing bicycle safety.
On April 6, 2010 at 6 p.m., all kids and families are invited to attend a proclamation ceremony supporting helmet safety in Gilbert at Town Hall, 50 E. Civic Center Drive, in room 300.
All Valley residents are invited to participate in the annual Great Bike Chase, on April 25, 2010. The Great Bike Chase takes friends and family on a 4.3- mile fun ride through downtown Phoenix to see the Arizona Diamondbacks play at Chase Field.
Before the Arizona Diamondbacks game, participants in the Great Bike Chase can enjoy entertainment, free bike safety checks, prize drawings, face painting and a “Bike Safety Rodeo”. The first 50 Bike Rodeo participants receive a free bike helmet. There will also be special prizes for those who complete the rodeo course. Participants interested in the ride only can register for $10. Those interested in both the ride and game can register early for $20 or pay $30 for both the ride and game the day of the event.
The Town of Gilbert Bike to Work Day is Monday, April 26, 2010. This FREE event will be held from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and will feature breakfast and appetizers, prize drawings, contests, safety materials and demonstrations. All Town of Gilbert employees are invited to participate in the event which will take place at Freestone Park’s playground ramada (1045 E. Juniper Road, Gilbert, Arizona 85234).
Throughout the month of April Gilbert students will participate in ongoing Gilbert Bike-to-School events. Bike safety coloring and design contests are examples of ongoing activities at schools participating in Gilbert Safe Routes to School Program. Contestants may win bicycles and helmets.
Riding your bike is a wonderful way to stay fit while exploring Gilbert and your greater community. Children and adults alike will enjoy the variety of bike-related events throughout the month of April (including the chance to win prizes at most events).
